There’s nothing better than starting your summer off than with a conversation about fiber and it’s wonderful traits. Am I right or am I right? I can honestly say that adding a fiber supplement to my diet has changed my body more than anything else I’ve taken, the stuff is that good. What is fiber really though, and how can it help out so much? Let’s take a closer look.

Before I go any further this article talks about feces (poop) and other bodily functions, you may just want to take my word that fiber products are good and come buy one called ‘Fiberlyze’ from me and I’ll tell you how to take it. I wouldn’t read this before lunch if you have a weak stomach. If your doctor told you that you needed a fiber product listen to their advice and not mine. Continue reading

Personal Trainer In Annapolis Maryland Shows How To Stay Fit While On Vacation

It is hard to stay healthy while on vacation. Is it possible, yes, but like I said, it’s tough. Hotels don’t really cater to those living a healthier lifestyle because it costs more to maintain a nice gym and have decent eats. Restaurant’s are the same way in resort towns. It’s almost like it is a given, go on vacation and unwind -> pack on the pounds. Not cool, not cool at all.

How do you stay healthy and fit while on vacation? Well I’m glad you asked. Here are 5 simple steps to help you prevent from totally slacking while you’re enjoying your time off.

1. Upgrade- Get a room with a kitchen so you can cook your own meals, you can still go out each day but this way you’ll still be able to stick to your diet.

2. Plan Ahead- Make a schedule and keep to it, act as if you’re at home almost and just keep to your normal routine…easier said than done.

3. Avoid Dessert- “I’m on vacation, this one dessert won’t hurt.” It will and you know it will, try to avoid the sweets.

4. Work Out- Try to find a hotel that has a good gym either inside of it or one that is close to an actual gym. Day passes for gyms usually run between $10-$20. If you want to avoid the gym during your time off then do some body weight exercises in the room like pushups, squats and situps. Running around your location is a great exercise and also a really cool way to familiarize yourself with where you’re at.

5. Avoid The Munchies- A lot of times when people indulge it’s because they’ve had a few drinks. Anything you eat is going to be good, so stick with the healthy stuff.

Vacations should be fun so don’t go overboard with your diet, but at the same time try to stick to your plan because it all adds up in the end. Thanks for your time and let’s work together soon to get you where you want to be.

Annapolis Personal Training – How To Clean Your Shaker Bottle

I just cleaned some tupperware and my shaker bottles which I use to cook my food in and the shaker bottles in which I’ll use to make my protein shakes and post-workout shakes (yes there is a difference). Now if you’ve ever bought one of these thingy-ma-jigs and made a shake, and then left it in your car or gym bag or wherever for more than a day you can understand me when I say this…They smell terrible. They wreak, I mean there isn’t even a word to describe it sometimes it is so bad.

I wanted to write up a quick post on how to clean them so you can re-use them, because if you do it wrong the stench will stay with them forever. Continue reading

Annapolis Personal Trainer Erik Thorsvik explains post workout shakes

I’ll keep this one short, but I can tell you right now that the post workout shake or meal that you take in after a strenuous workout is one of if not THE most important meal of the day. When you lift your body loses it’s natural sugars. This occurs in the form of glucose from your muscles, liver and blood stream. Most people think that taking in a protein shake right after they lift is the best thing to do but there’s more to it, A LOT more to it!

Let me explain, the quicker you restore these natural sugar levels, the faster you start to recover. So how do you restore them? Easy, sugars!

If you’re like me then you don’t think sugar will do the trick because you’ve been taught that all sugars are bad, however these extremely fast acting sugars act in different ways than a normal sugar all because of the time you are taking them…post workout. Continue reading

The Power of Green – Add A Greens Product To Your Diet For Better Health

When I was taking nutrition in college I remember my professor would tell me that every vitamin, mineral and nutrient was already in your diet naturally and that supplements were a waste of money. She would also tell the class that protein wasn’t necessary to build muscle and that gatorade was the biggest problem to children because of it’s sugar content.

This post is leading into two things, one, many people in this industry don’t know what the hell they are talking about and this includes college professors sometimes like in this case so make sure you find out everything you can about your trainer or the person you take advice from. Secondly, and back to my original point, I have found it nearly impossible to get your daily required vitamins and nutrients from a regular diet, especially if you shop at a ‘regular’ grocery store. Do you cook vegetables? You lose their added value, do you buy fruit? An Orange, by the time it’s bought may not even contain a drop of vitamin C some studies are showing now. What?!?!?!?!? I know, it sucks. Continue reading
